I have spent the last 20 years helping individuals, couples and families set and achieve goals which help them to overcome some of life's challenges.
I work in a collaborative and non-judgemental way that focuses on what my clients wish to achieve and I adapt the way I work to suit each individual and their purpose.
The initial appointment is centred around a discussion of the individual circumstances and how we could work together. Sometimes that might result in a discussion about referral to an alternative service that may be more appropriate.
All of us face challenges in life. Whether it's an unanticipated event or circumstance that confronts us, old habits or behaviour patterns that create difficulties or merely the complexity of life, we all have internal and external resources to help us navigate our way.
Sometimes though, those resources aren't quite enough and we become 'stuck' in trying to manage those challenges.
Counselling is a way to 'step out of the everyday' and take a different look at how we might adapt, achieve our goals or improve our wellbeing.
My approach is to work alongside others in ways that help them to identify and access the many resources they have in new ways - and enable them to grow through their challenges into a place of greater wellbeing.
CBT is an effective therapeutic approach to making changes in many different areas of life including depression and anxiety.
Arts based activities and processes can be very effective in assisting with managing challenges, emotional distress, making changes and achieving goals.
I am also a Registered General and Obstetric Nurse.
I have Post Graduate training in supervision for health providers.
Counselling sessions are private and confidential. However, where there is threat of harm to any person I have a personal and professional responsibility to get appropriate help to reduce the risk of this occurring. If possible I discuss this first and come to a mutual agreement before any action is taken.
